Type :— ECUADOR. ‘ Crescit in fruticetis prope Pindilique Andium orientalium prov. Cuenca, alt. s. m. 2500–3000 m, ubi floret mense Octobri (nº4914)’ [12 Oct 1888, Lehmann 4914] (lectotype: K 000497739 ! designated by Calvo & Freire (2016: 125); isolectotypes: MO 714303 !—fragment, MO 714304 !—fragment) .

Gynoxys heterophylla Turczaninow (1851 b: 85) , non Senecio heterophyllus Thunb. 1800 . Aetheolaena heterophylla (Turczaninow) Nordenstam (1978: 54) . Type:— ECUADOR. ‘Crescit ad radices montis Chimborazo prope vicum Mocha et in Valle Pallatanga, (S. 59/17)’ [L. O. Sodiro 59/17] (holotype: B †, lectotype: QPLS 211020!, designated by Calvo & Freire (2016: 123); isolectotype: MO 714296!).

Senecio hypomallus Benoist (1936: 809) . Type:— ECUADOR. Quito ‘Equateur: Vallée de Lloa, 3 Juillet 1930, Benoist 2719 ’ (holotype: P 02273081!).

Distribution and Habitat ( Fig. 5 ): — Senecio pindilicensis occurs in the Andes of Peru and Ecuador, at elevations of 2500–4000 m.

Note —According to the protologue of S. mochensis , its leaves are all petiolate, stems minute pilose and phyllaries number ranges from 12–13. These characters were used to differentiate the species from S. pindilicensis ; nevertheless, the lectotype and isolectotype of S. mochensis shows a variability in the hairiness of stems and the number of phyllaries (12–14); also its distal leaves are sessile, while the lower leaves are petiolate. Consequently, S. mochensis is here considered a synonym of S. pindilicensis .
