Type:— COLOMBIA. ‘Nouvelle-Grenade: endroits marécageux du pie de Tolima! près des neiges [M. J.] Goudot [s. n.]’ (holotype: P 01816914!). Fig. 11 .

Senecio hypsobates Weddell var. parvulus Cuatrecasas (1950: 39) , syn. nov. Type :—‘ COLOMBIA, Dep.Valle. Cordillera Central, Pàramo de las Vegas , divisoria de las cuencas de los ríos Tuluá y Bugalagrande, 3600–3800 m. alt., colect. 22-III-1946 J. Cuatrecasas 20328 ’ (lectotype: F 0051323 F!, designated here; isolectotypes: COL 000005411 !, F 0051324 F!, P 01816913 !, US 00123310!).

Distribution and Habitat ( Fig. 5 ): — Senecio hypsobates occurs in páramos of Colombia and Ecuador, at elevations of 3200–4300 m.

Note: — Cuatrecasas (1951) defined Senecio hypsobates var. parvulus for the size of leaves (2–3.5 cm × 1.5– 3 mm) and scape length; in the present study, S. hypsobates var. parvula is proposed as a new synonym of S. hypsobates because these characters are part of the variability present in the examined specimens.
