Steirodon (Posidippus) dentiferum Walker, 1869 View in CoL
Fig. 25D, E View FIGURE 25 ; 28D View FIGURE 28
Distribution: South America; Argentina: Misiones; Brazil: Paraná; Colombia: Valle del Cauca.
New record for Brazil and for the Paraná State.
Comments: This species was also rarely found after its description. As far as we know, this is only the fourth record of the species. Just as for the other species of the tribe previously presented, S. dentiferum also seems to be broadly distributed along forested areas of South America.
Bioacoustics ( Fig. 26G–I View FIGURE 26 ): The stridulation is performed by males at night, when long sequences of syllables not forming echemes are produced. Similarly to sounds of C. citrifolium and S. dentiferoides , each syllable is formed by pulses that are very sparse in the beginning, then becoming more grouped after the first third of the syllable. These pulses are produced in a crescendo of intensity until the mid of stridulation, when the intensity stabilizes.
Dominant frequency: 10 ± 0.4 kHz.
Bandwidth: 6.3 ± 0.1 kHz.
Duration: Syllable: 0.05 ± 0.005 s.
Mute interval: Syllable: 4.1 ± 0.9 s.
