Typophyllum inflatum Vignon, 1925 View in CoL

Fig. 33 View FIGURE 33

Distribution: Argentina: Misiones; Bolivia: Beni, Santa Cruz; Brazil: Paraná.

Comments: Even if this species was previously recorded for the Paraná State ( Cigliano et al. 2022), the record for the Iguaçu National Park is new. We collected individuals which varied considerably regarding coloration patterns: greenish, whitish, greenish-whitish, brownish-whitish, greyish were recorded, even if dark brown specimens were most frequent .

Bioacoustics ( Fig. 33E–G View FIGURE 33 ): The stridulation only occurs at night, when males produce very conspicuous short echemes that are composed by sequences of two syllables. Such syllables are distinctly emitted with a gradual increase and a posterior decrease of intensity. The frequency of the sound varies along the duration of the syllables, and an evident harmonic appears at half of the dominant frequency.

Dominant frequency: 21.3 ± 0.4 kHz.

Bandwidth: 3.5 ± 1.5 kHz.

Duration: Syllable: 0.04 ± 0.004 s; Echeme: 0.18 ± 0.004 s.

Mute interval: Syllable: 0.1 ± 0.005 s; Echeme: 0.2 ± 0.01 s.
