Synelmis gibbsi Salazar-Vallejo, 2003: 26 –27, figs 1C, 5.
Type locality. Solomon and Marshall islands, intertidal.
Material examined. Joseph Bonaparte Gulf, NW Australia, Solander cruise 5117, Stn 28GR56, 10º 17.943’S, 129º 39.044’E, 95 m, coll. Remarks. This species has been adequately described by Salazar-Vallejo (2003) based on specimens from widespread Indo-west Pacific localities. The present material fits well the type description. The species can be differentiated from other Australian species based on the key below, and from other Synelmis based on characters presented in Table 1.
Distribution. Indo-west Pacific to Red Sea and Persian Gulf in the west; from intertidal to 831 m (Salazar- Vallejo 2003). First record for NW Australia.
