Material examined. THE GAMBIA. 5 (3 unsclerotized)/1 (unsclerotized)/0, Small pond at Kampanti , Western Division, 7-ii-1998 .

Remarks. As noted previously, specimens from the Afrotropical region are much smaller than those from the Palaearctic ( Smit 1994). Males from Cameroon (n=1) and The Gambia (n=2) are 672–753 long and 575–627 wide, males from the Palaearctic (n=1 respectively 4, Morocco and The Netherlands) are 883–932 long and 753–782 wide. Morphologically they are similar, and are therefore all assigned to A. novus.
