Protologue citation:—“Tiersertal im J. 1881”.
Taxonomic notes:— Thymus sarntheinii was described as a hybrid “ Th. sub-pannonicus × Th. trachselianus ”, but according to the consulted original material, we do not emphasize the concept of a hybridogenous origin, but rather just a variant of Th. praecox Opiz (1824: 40) subsp. polytrichus ( A.Kern. ex Borbás 190: 105) Jalas (1970: 189). This latter polymorphic taxon is part of the central-western European and Alpine tetraploid complex of Th. praecox . A taxonomic revision of the Th. praecox species complex is urgently needed.
