Type (lectotype, designated here):— MACEDONIA. Macedonia orientalis: In monte Boz-Dagh prope Serrai (Seres), substr. calc., alt. 1800 m, 15 July 1936, Rechinger K. H. et Rechinger F. s.n. Iter graecum IV, 1936 ( W 1939- 0001972 ! lower-middle specimen; image of the lectotype is available at http://herbarium.univie.ac.at/database/detail. php? ID =499308) .
Protologue citation:—“Boz-Dagh bei Serrai, ca. 1800 m (10895)”.
Taxonomic notes:— Thymus alsarensis var. paucisetus is a heterotypic synonym of Th. thracicus Velen. var. alsarensis (Ronniger) Jalas.
