TYPE LOCALITY: South Africa, Cape of Good Hope; or Namibia, Gammafluss (= Lowen River). See Meester et al. (1986:217) .
DISTRIBUTION: S Chad, N Central African Republic, W and E Sudan, NE Uganda, Ethiopia and Somalia south and southwest to South Africa, Namibia, Angola and SE Zaire.
SYNONYMS: abyssinicus , bea, burlacei, capensis , chora ; cottoni Dollman and Burlace, 1928 ; excelsus, frommi, hamiltoni, koodoo, torticornis, zambesiensis .
