TYPE LOCALITY: USA, Plains and Highlands of the Missouri River .
DISTRIBUTION: S Alberta and S Saskatchewan ( Canada) south through W USA to Hidalgo, Baja California, W Sonora ( Mexico). Introduced to Lanai Isl (Hawaiian Isis).
STATUS: CITES - Appendix I (Mexican populations); U.S. ESA and IUCN - Endangered as A. a. peninsularis and A. a. sonoriensis.
SYNONYMS: anteflexa , mexicana, oregona, peninsularis, sonoriensis.
COMMENTS: Reviewed by O'Gara (1978, Mammalian Species, 90).
