TYPE LOCALITY: South Africa, between Kaffraria and Great Namaqualand, two hundred leagues from the Cape of Good Hope. See Vosmaer (1766) .
DISTRIBUTION: Cape Province, South Africa (extinct); N Kenya and Somalia. See Grubb (in press).
SYNONYMS: delamerei, edentatus, pallasii, typicus (see Grubb, in press).
