Type-locality. Cachoeira do Limão, Rio Tapajós, Pará, Brazil.

Distribution and habitat. Gonatodes tapajonicus is endemic to Jamanxin and middle Tapajós rivers, in Brazil, state of Pará ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ). It is arboreal and diurnal, inhabits flooded depressions with palms (well-preserved Euterpe oleracea forest) along the river, at the edge with primary terra firme forest, where it is found on palm and tree trunks (30–200 cm above ground, and 10–20 cm diameter—Rodrigues 1980; Sturaro & Ávila-Pires 2011).
