Chrysis variegata Curtis, 1837
Chrysis variegata Curtis, 1837a, p. 5 , nom. praeocc., nec Olivier, 1790. Holotype [sex unknown]. France (type lost).
Synonym of Chrysis bicolor Lepeletier, 1806 : Kimsey and Bohart 1991, p. 389.
Synonym of Chrysis leachii Shuckard, 1837 : present paper.
Chrysis variegata Curtis, 1837 (junior homonym of C. variegata Olivier, 1790 ) was described based on the same specimen at the British Museum selected by Shuckard (1837) as the holotype of Chrysis leachii . However, the name Chrysis variegata Curtis is permanently invalid as it is a junior primary homonym. It was synonymised by Kimsey and Bohart (1991) with Chrysis bicolor , but the history of this name is clearly associated with the specimen deposited at the British Museum (now lost), and studied at the same time by Curtis (1837a) and Shuckard (1837) (see above).
