Revised diagnosis. Frontoclypeal region and vertex slightly convex with very sparse and well-marked puncturation; pronotum subrectangular, widest in anterior third; in males metaventrite with shallow subtrapezoidal median impression; metaventral process as broad as 1/3 of maximum metaventral width, posteromesal margin slightly concave; lateral projections 1.2 times as broad as long; aedeagus in ventral view with abruptly narrowing, subtriangular and blunt apical part.
Redescription. Male. Body length 1.42–1.47 mm, moderately convex, pronotum brown with reddish hue, elytra nearly black, head, legs and antennae light brown, tarsi and mouth parts yellowish, mandibles dark-brown with black apices, setation yellowish.
Head broadest across moderately large eyes; length 0.15–0.16 mm, width 0.30–0.31 mm; frontoclypeal region subtrapezoidal, slightly convex; vertex slightly convex; supraantennal tubercles slightly raised. Puncturation on frontoclypeal region and vertex very sparse, well-marked; setation moderately long, very sparse, suberect. Length of antennae 0.58–0.62 mm; antennomeres I–II subcylindrical, 1.4 times as long as broad, antennomere III slightly longer than broad, antennomeres IV–V elongate, 1.2 times as long as broad, antennomere VI almost subquadrate, VII ovoid, 1.3 times as long as broad, VIII almost spherical, IX transverse, 1.2 times as broad as long, X transverse, 1.4 times as broad as long, XI subconical, 1.4 times as long as broad.
Pronotum subrectangular, slightly convex, widest in anterior third, length 0.43–0.44 mm, width 0.54–0.55 mm, with broadly rounded anterior margin, posterior margin weakly bisinuate, sides strongly rounded in anterior third and very weakly convergent in posterior third; posterior corners obtuse. Lateral carina well-marked, finely microserrate Puncturation fine, moderately dense, composed of small and shallow punctures; setation moderately long, suberect to erect.
Elytra oval, elongate, moderately convex, length 0.83–0.89 mm, width 0.61–0.64 mm, EI 1.36–1.40; widest in basal third; apical margins of elytra almost straight. Each elytron with single basal fovea located in middle between humerus and scutellum; humeral carina as long as 1/5 of elytral length. Puncturation relatively fine, punctures shallow, moderately large, distance between punctures 0.5–2.0 times of their diameter. Setation moderately long, suberect to erect.
Metaventrite with shallow subtrapezoidal median impression, sparsely punctured, distance between punctures 1.3–2.0 times of their diameter, with moderately short and sparse setation; metaventral process as broad as 1/3 of maximum metaventral width, posteromesal margin slightly concave; lateral projections 1.2 times as broad as long, apex of each forming sharp angle with pointed tip.
Aedeagus ( Fig. 50 View FIGURES 50 – 52 ) length 0.42–0.46 mm, in ventral view with abruptly narrowing, subtriangular and blunt apical part, parameres slender with long apical seta; endophallus as in Fig. 51 View FIGURES 50 – 52 .
Legs long and slender; protibiae as in Fig. 52 View FIGURES 50 – 52 .
Female. Very similar to male, except metaventrite slightly convex in middle; body length 1.42–1.44 mm; head length 0.15–0.16 mm, width 0.30–0.32 mm; length of antennae 0.61–0.63 mm; pronotum length 0.43–0.44 mm, width 0.55–0.57 mm; length of elytra 0.83–0.85 mm, width of elytra 0.60–0.63 mm; EI 1.35–1.38.
Distribution. Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Croatia.
Remarks. Ganglbauer (1899) in the original description gave a rather general locality: ” Bosnien, in Gesellschaft des carnicum vorkommend” [” Bosnia, occurring in the company of carnicum ”] and did not specify the number of examined specimens. In order to ensure the stability of nomenclature and provide a unique namebearing type for Cephennium bosnicum a lectotype is here designated.
