Distribution: SW California ( USA) to W Baja California ( Mexico).
Conservation: IUCN – Data Deficient as C. h. fallax and C. h. pallidus , otherwise Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Reviewed by Huey (1960; 1964) and Lackey (1996, Mammalian Species No. 517). Includes anthonyi, considered a full species by Hall (1981) but a subspecies by Williams et al. (1993). Subspecies reviewed by Williams et al. (1993).
