Notes. Heterosplilus asiaticola Belokobylskij et Maetô, 2009 was described based on many specimens from different localities in Japan. After studied the available material from Taiwan Island we confirmed that H. asiaticola is the same as the morphological form H. austriacus forma asiaticus Belokobylskij, 1996 previously recorded from Taiwan ( Belokobylskij, 1996). In the original description, Belokobylskij and Maetô (2009) compared H. asiaticola with H. chinensis Chen et Shi , and listed the differences between these two species by comparison the type specimens of H. asiaticola with the description and figures of H. chinensis (the types of this species were unavailable for study). When we examined the numerous specimens from different Chinese localities ( ZJUH), we realized that the differences previously indicated between them are not correct because of the poor original description of H. chinensis . Based on the new Chinese material of H. chinensis and its comparison with type material of H. asiaticola , we conclude that H. asiaticola Belokobylskij et Maetô, 2009 is a junior synonym of H. chinensis Chen et Shi, 2004 (syn. nov.). Additionally, it needs to be stressed that H. austriacus (Szepligeti) [incorrectly synonymised with H. sicanus ( Marshall, 1888) by Papp, 2004] is unknown in the fauna of Taiwan and mainland China, and the material of this species from Taiwan (as H. austriacus forma asiaticus Belokobylskij: Belokobylskij, 1996) belongs to H. chinensis .
