Hosts. Viburnaceae : Sambucus spp. ( Benavent-Corai et al. 2005).
Mine. ( Fig. 130 View FIGURES 130–137 ) The solitary larva forms a greenish linear-blotch mine that often adjoins the leaf margin. Pupation takes place outside the mine, in the soil.
Puparium. ( Figs. 131–133 View FIGURES 130–137 ) Brownish-orange, semi-glossy, 2.0 mm long, with deep segmentation; surface quite smooth except for narrow spine bands. Posterior spiracles set on wide and very short conical protuberances that are entirely separate; black, with ten minute sessile bulbs arranged in a semicircle. Anal plate blackish-brown, not protruding above the surface of the puparium viewed from the side and directed ventro-posteriorly.
Cephalopharyngeal skeleton. ( Fig. 465 View FIGURES 465–469 ) Left mouthhook is slightly larger than the right, each bearing two accessory teeth. Intermediate sclerite short, 0.57× as long as maximum height of left mouthhook. The mouthhook, most of the intermediate sclerite, and anterior portion of the dorsal cornu are strongly sclerotized; the intermediate sclerite dorso-anteriorly, posterior portion of the dorsal cornu and the ventral cornu are much less so. Female head. ( Figs. 466, 467 View FIGURES 465–469 ) Yellow, with only arista, oc tr and hind margin of eye brown; orbit not projecting above eye in profile; 2 orb s, 2 fr s; lunule high, narrowing posteriorly, reaching the level of the posterior fr s; pped small, rounded; gena medially 0.2× as high as maximum height of eye.
Thorax viewed from the side. ( Fig. 468 View FIGURES 465–469 ) Mostly bright yellow, with kepst in ventral two-thirds, mr ventroposteriorly and anatg black; pprn dorsally, anepist ventrally, anepm medially and mtkepst ventrally and posteriorly bear elongated blackish spots. Calypter brown, with black margin and yellow fringe. Cx 3 blackish-yellow.
Female genitalia. ( Fig. 469 View FIGURES 465–469 ) Capsule of spermatheca relatively large, 0.44× as high as height of anterior part of oviscape. Spermathecae equal in size, light brown, spherical, with small invagination near base and with narrow rim-shaped scarcely visible basal collar. Spermathecal duct weakly sclerotized. Distribution. Palaearctic ( Papp & Černý 2017). Ukraine (first record).
Comments. In Ukraine reared material is only from four localities, but empty mines were also found in Vinnytsa, Sumy, Kyiv and Poltava Regions. Except L. amoena , Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard) is the only pest registered on Sambucus in Guatemala (Wientraub et al. 2017). The mine pattern of this species rather differs from that of L. amoena , linear, running along ribs. L. huidobrensis is not registered in Ukraine yet.
