Range: — Mexico to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC) and Argentina.
Ecology: —Uncommon and often overlooked; terrestrial in high-elevation scrub or tall grasslands; 2300–3850 m, down to 1800 m elsewhere.
Notes: — Botrychium australe R.Br. , from Argentina and Chile, may occur in southern Bolivia. It differs from B. schaffneri by its more fleshy blades with the three major segments long-stalked and somewhat pilose axes.
