Material examined. Holotype male, Juniperus thurifera leaf-litter, 1060 m a.s.l. Macizo de Ayllón , Tamajón, Guadalajara ( Spain), 24.iv.1980, leg. J.C. Simón Benito ( MNCN, sample C119, Ent N ° Cat. 78438) ; paratype, 1 ex. ( MNCN, Ent N ° Cat. 78435), same data as holotype; 1 juv., Echinospartum horridum, Genista scorpius and Buxus sempervirens scrub, 138 m a.s.l., Chía near Sahún, Huesca ( Spain), 27.vii.1995 . leg. J.C. Simón Benito ( MNCN, sample C2354, Ent N ° Cat. 33207); 1 female, Juniperus thurifera leaf-litter, 1140 m a.s.l., Abejar near Soria, Sierra de Cabrejas ( Spain), 28.iv.2005 . leg. A. Signoret Moreno (MNCN, sample S1P14, Ent N° Cat. 57540).
Redescription. Body length without antennae 0.56–0.66 mm. Colour in alcohol bluish-grey, ocular plate bluish-black. Granulation fine.
Antennae shorter than head ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 2 ). Ant. I with 7, Ant. II with 11 and Ant. III with 22 ordinary setae. Ant. III and IV fused dorsally and separated ventrally. Sensory organ of Ant. III consisting of two small internal sensilla and two equal in size subcylindrical guard sensilla; two guard setae between them, ventral microsensillum present. Ant. IV with simple or slightly trilobed apical vesicle, 5 subcylindrical sensilla (S2 absent), dorsoexternal microsensillum and subapical organite ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ).
8 + 8 ocelli. PAO oval, 1.4–1.7 times larger than neighbor ocellus, with 9–10 vesicles ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ). Buccal cone very long ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 2 ). Mandibles absent, maxilla styliform. Labrum long pointed at apex, with 2, 4, 2 setae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ); prelabral setae not visible. Labium without organites x and papillate setae L, with 12 + 12 ordinary setae ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ). Perilabial area with 5 + 5 subequal setae ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ).
Dorsal chaetotaxy as in Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 2 . Setae and sensory setae (s) short. Microsensilla on Th. II present. Head with unpaired seta d1 present and seta a0 absent. Th. I with 3 + 3 setae. Th. II with 11 + 11 setae (a2 present, a5 and m4 absent) and Th. III with 10 + 10 setae (a2, a5 and m4 absent). Abd. I–III with 8 + 8 setae (a3, m3 and m4 absent), Abd. IV with 9 + 9 setae (m-row setae absent). Abd. V with setae a2 absent and p2 present ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ). Ventral chaetotaxy as in Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 2 . Thoracic sterna without setae, ventral tube with 4 + 4 setae.
Dens with six setae, mucro curved, with inner lamella ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ). Mucro/dens ratio: 3. Mucro + dens/claws III ratio: 2.5. Manubrium with 12 + 12 posterior setae. Retinaculum with 3 + 3 teeth. Each anal valve with two setae hr.
Tibiotarsi I, II and III with 15, 15 and 14 setae, respectively ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ). Femora I, II and III with 11, 10 and 9 setae, trochanters I, II and III with 5, 5 and 4–5 setae, coxae I, II and III with 3, 7 and 7 setae, subcoxae 2 of legs I, II and III with 0, 2 and 2 setae, subcoxae 1 of legs I, II and III with 1, 2 and 2 setae, respectively. Claw without inner tooth and lateral teeth. Empodial appendage absent ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 3 – 9 ).
Remarks. S. romeroi comb. nov., S. agrensis comb. nov. and S. weinerae sp. nov. clearly differ in characters summarized in Tab. 1 View TABLE 1 .
