Spodochlamys cupreola Bates, 1888 View in CoL Spodochlamys cupreola H. W. Bates 1888: 294 View in CoL ,
T. 17, f. 10 (original combination).
Type Material. Holotype male ( Fig. 1 View Figs ): “Type [p, circular, red ring]//Sp. figured [p]// B.C.A. Col. II. (2) [p]// Chiriqui,/ Panama./Trötsch. [p]// Spodochlamys /cupreola/Bates// Spodochlamys /cupreola/H. Bates 1888 / HOLOTYPE /det. M. L. Jameson 2007 [p, red label, black border]// NHMUK014560447 About NHMUK [p]”.
Remarks. The holotype of S. cupreola was part of the collection made for the Biologia Centrali-Americana (BCA), a project resulting in a series of publications from 1879 to 1915, documenting the natural history of Mexico and CentralAmerica ( Godman 1915). The BCA was issued by Frederick DuCane Godman (1834–1919) and Osbert Salvin (1835–1898), who recruited many naturalists, including Henry Walter Bates (1825–1892), to help collect specimens and produce publications on New World biodiversity. The material from the BCA was deposited centrally at BMNH (not in the collections of the individual naturalists who worked on it), and Godman and Salvin were accordingly honored with a bronze plaque on the main staircase of the Natural History Museum.
Additional Material. Two specimens, male: “Turrialba. Costa Rica /Date 2.4.[19]81/ Found on Big light traps / Collector A. B. S. King [h & p]// A.B.S.
