46. Cyathea kalbreyeri (Baker) Domin (1929a: 262) View in CoL . Alsophila kalbreyeri Baker (1894: 9) , replaced synonym: Alsophila podophylla Baker (1881: 202) not Alsophila podophylla Hooker (1857: 334) . Alsophila kalbreyeri Christensen (1905: 44) , superfluous new name. Trichipteris kalbreyeri (Baker) Tryon (1970: 45) . Type:— COLOMBIA. Antioquia: San Carlos, 4500 ft, 27 January 1880, W. Kalbreyer 1375 (lectotype K-000227564!, here designated, isolectotypes B-20- 0000162–20-0000165!, GH-00020429! [fragment of B], K-000227565!, NY-148746! [fragment of B]).

Distribution and habitat: —Only known from the type locality in Dept. Antioquia, Colombia, at 1500 m in moist montane rainforest with Caribbean influence.

Remarks: —The type specimen of this species does not comply with the specimens usually carried under this name ( Lehnert 2014a). They are here addressed as Cyathea gibbosa . The true C. kalbreyeri must be a smaller species most similar to the indusiate C. ebenina Karsten (1856: 451) , from which it differs in lacking indusia and having duller brown petiole scales. During a visit to the type locality in February 2015, I encountered several tree fern species but none that could be unambiguously correlated with the type specimen of C. kalbreyeri , except for some small sterile plants of the widespread C. nigripes that came close to the shape of the pinnae and pinnules of the type but not in size.
