68. Cyathea zongoensis Lehnert (2003: 172) View in CoL . Type:— BOLIVIA. La Paz: Prov. Murillo, Río Zongo Valley, 22.5 km below dam at Lago Zongo, 16°09’S, 68°07’W, 3000 m, 9 October 1982, J.C. Solomon 8429 (holotype UC-1493629!/- 1494518!, isotype MO-1858444!).
Distribution and habitat: —Central Peru and Bolivia at 3000–3400 m in elfin forests and shrubby paramo.
Remarks: — Cyathea zongoensis was described as being trunkless but the Peruvian material includes plants with trunks to several meters tall. In this aspect, the species displays a similar plasticity as C. frigida and C. praetermissa Lehnert (2011a: 38) , which further resemble C. zongoensis in the frond dissection and texture.
