14. Cyathea trichiata (Maxon) Domin (1930: 166) View in CoL . Alsophila trichiata Maxon (1922: 44) . Trichipteris trichiata (Maxon) Tryon (1970: 44) . Type:— PANAMÁ. Darién: Near Cana, 660 m, 3 June 1908, R.S. Williams 928 (holotype US-00066219!, isotypes P-00642509!).

Distribution and habitat: — Costa Rica, Panama and the western Andean slopes of Colombia and Ecuador at 200– 1100(–1600) m. Usually found at lower elevations than the sympatric Cyathea stipularis and C. conjugata .

Remarks: —The holotype is the lower half of a fertile pinna; Maxon (1922: 44) describes this condition and refers only to this part as the type. He further states “the apical half is mounted on sheet no. 1014573”.
