Etymology. Named after John Paul Jones, artistic name of John Richard Baldwin also known as Jonesy, bassist/keyboardist of the band Led Zeppelin, as a homage to his brilliance and contributions to music as a multi-instrumentalist.

Type locality. Santa Catarina state coast (26°34’S, 47°59’W).

Remarks. This species presents a very remarkable character, so far considered unique for Pseudharpinia . The presence of an acute spine projected posteriorly on the basis of pereopod 6 is an exclusive character that makes Pseudharpinia jonesyi sp. nov. easily distinguishable not only within the genus, but in Harpiniinae as well.

Geographic distribution. The species is known from the coast of the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul ( Fig 24 View FIGURE 24 ).

Bathymetric range. 25–130 m depth.
