Remarks. As remarked above, re-examination of paratype material has confirmed the second-thoracomere demarcation on the carapace of this species (as in P. oregmus , see Fig. 7A View FIGURE 7 ). The antenna has been re-examined ( Fig. 6), confirming a dissimilarity to the conformation in Konarus (in which genus the peduncular article-2 flange is dorsal). Finally, however, there are two setae on the cheliped coxal sclerite.
In addition, the presence of tubercle-mounted setae (or setose tubercles) on the merus of the posterior pereopods are now seen as a characterizing feature of Parakonarus (absent in Konarus ). Other potential distinguishing characters mentioned by Bird (2011) are also confirmed, viz. the presence of some setae on the dorsal margin of the cheliped carpus (shown only in the males of P. robertsoni ), the presence of a cap-like distal flagellum on the antennule, a cephalothorax distinctly longer than wide (1.3 to 1.5 times as long as wide in Parakonarus species ; 1.0 to 1.1 times in Konarus species ), dorsodistal spines on the propodi of the posterior pereopods, and the one-segmented uropod exopod. However, the number of setae on the cheliped coxal sclerite is not distinct, with two in all three species of Konarus , and two ( P. fairgo ), three ( P. kopure ) or four ( P. robertsoni ) in Parakonarus ; the presence of two ischial setae on pereopods 2 and 3 is also found in Konarus straddi (but not the other two Konarus species , unless broken off in all the material examined), while the carpus of the posterior pereopods does have three distal spines in all the konariin taxa examined. Additionally, P. fairgo has a proximal seta on the dactylus of pereopod 1, as found in the species of Konarus , but not in the other two species of Parakonarus in which this feature could have been described.
Unlike other species of Parakonarus , the “fixed finger” (ventroproximal extension) of the male cheliped does not bear a distal spine.
