Genus Parakonarus Bird, 2011 View in CoL
Parakonarus Bird, 2011 View in CoL , 7–8; Edgar, 2012, 26.
Diagnosis. Females with tubercle-mounted setae (or setose tubercles) on meri of the posterior pereopods, distinct flagellar segment on the antennule present or absent, dorsal margin of cheliped carpus with setae. Cephalothorax 1.3 to 1.5 times as long as wide, demarcation of second thoracomere by separation of carapace plates rather than by a groove. Cheliped coxal sclerite with two to four setae, carpus with numerous fine setae along dorsal margin. Ischium of pereopod 1 with two setae; dorsoproximal seta on basis of pereopod 1 longer than basis width, longer distal seta of carpus of pereopod 1 shorter than carpus, dactylus of pereopod 1 with proximal seta shorter than dactylus or absent; one or two setae on ischia of pereopods 2 and 3, propodi of posterior pereopods with dorsodistal spines, uropod exopod one-segmented. Body length normally>six times width. Males with mid-ventral carpal apophysis on cheliped, propodal ventral apophysis absent; dactyli of the posterior pereopods with distal setules. All pereonites wider than long. Propodus of cheliped not gaping, without distal tooth-like apophysis in gap between fingers.
Species included: P. kopure Bird, 2011 (type-species); P. provincialis ( Dollfus, 1898) ? comb. nov.; P. fairgo ( Bamber, 2005) ; P. robertsoni Edgar, 2012 ; P. juliae ( Morales-Núñez, Heard & Alfaro, 2013) comb. nov.; P. corrigendum sp. nov.; P. sozo sp. nov.; P. oregmus sp. nov..
Remarks. P. provincialis has a limited description, but is transferred to this genus on the basis of its onesegmented uropod exopod and the apparent ventral apophysis on the carpus of the male cheliped. Of the five welldescribed species of this genus for which females are known, P. oregmus , P. kopure , P. sozo and P. fairgo have two setae on the ischium of pereopod 1 in females (as do species of Pseudoleptochelia as restricted herein, but unlike species of Konarus ); the single female of P. robertsoni examined by Edgar (2012) is described as having only one seta here, but this species may also be found to have two on examination of further material. Only P. oregmus is without a discernible distal cap-like segment on the antennule.
