Subfamily Leptocheliinae Lang, 1973 View in CoL

Revised diagnosis (after Larsen & Wilson, 2002): Female: Carapace without demarcation of the second thoracomere. Antennular peduncle slender, proximal article more than 2.4 times as long as wide. Cheliped merus with two ventral setae not as long as width of merus, carpus not extended distally into a “cuff”. Antennal article 2 with dorsodistal and ventrodistal spines, article 3 with dorsodistal spine. Maxilliped endite with three distal spines, rounded, the outer two often linguiform. Unguis of pereopod 1 shorter than dactylus; meri of pereopods 2 to 6 with one or two ventrodistal spines; bases of pereopods 4 to 6 stout, more than twice as long as wide. Uropod exopod one- or two-segmented. Male: Antennule with multi-segmented flagellum; antennal articles 2 and 3 with spines as in female. Cheliped fully chelate, without tuft of setae on merus.

Remarks. This paper is not a re-analysis of the Leptocheliinae , which is the subject of a larger ongoing study, in particular in relation to the large genus Leptochelia ; that genus is not discussed (or even diagnosed) here. Only the revisions resulting from the present analyses are mentioned or discussed here.
