Parangitia NIGROFULGENS Kaye, 1922 View in CoL

Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 67, 991–998[993], pl. I: fig. 5. Combination still valid (see Poole 1989).

Syntype, female, pinned:

Specimen data: “Palmiste | 25/12/20 [Handwritten (by Lamont)]. “Lamont | Collection 1950.16” [Printed] with label with “ TYPE ” [Handwritten in red ink], glued to it. “ Parangitia nigrofulgens Kaye ” [Handwritten Lamont cabinet label]. Label by M.J.W.Cock, 1991, justifying paratype status of specimen.

Remarks: The species is illustrated in Pl. I: fig. 5 ( Kaye 1922, Kaye & Lamont 1927). The original description does not designate a type specimen and only gives “ Trinidad ” as the locality ( Kaye 1922). Kaye and Lamont (1927) only say “ Type from Trinidad ” and give three dates (including 25 Dec. 1920) for specimens from Palmiste. The above specimen collected 25 December 1920 at Palmiste is thus a syntype. Poole (1989) suggests that the [holo] type is in the BM(NH).
