Bassus orientalis Cameron, 1905: 131 .
Bassus clotho Morley, 1913: 381 . Synonymized by Townes et al. (1961).
Specimens examined. TAIWAN: 1♀ (det. Townes and Chiu), Kuanhsi, Sinchu 18–24. X. 1970 ( MT) ( TARI) ; 1♀ (det. Chiu), Tungou, Nantou, Hsien X. 1985, K. S. Lin leg. Chiu), Shantimen, Pingtung, Hsien 16–20. I. 1984 K. C. Chou & C. C. Pan leg. ( MT) ( TARI) .
Distribution. Not distributed in Japan. Outside Japan, this species has been recorded from China, India, Iran, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Taiwan ( Yu et al., 2016).
Remarks. As a result, we remove the distribution record of this species from Japan. Japanese records of this species should be treated as those of D. pallicoxa . This species resembles D. pallicoxa in the yellow coxae and the metasoma with large and dense punctures, but it can be distinguished by the following combination of character states: the mesopleuron covered with large and dense punctures (fine and sparse punctures in D. pallicoxa ); the minimum distance between punctures of mesopleuron 0.71–0.83 × as long as the diameter of punctures (0.22–0.56 in D. pallicoxa ); T II 0.60 × as long as maximum width (0.75–0.90 in D. pallicoxa ) (Table 1).
