Etymology
This generic name is composed of the prefix Shetw- (ancient Egyptian), meaning turtle, and the suffix -emys (Greek), referring to freshwater turtle.
Type locality and horizon
North of Lake Qarun, Fayum Depression, Fayum Governorate, northern Egypt. Jebel el-Quatrani Formation, early Oligocene (Rupelian) ( Andrews, 1903; Gaffney et al., 2011; PØrez-García et al., 2017).
Distribution
Early Oligocene of the Fayum Depression ( Egypt).
