Steinböck 1948: 23.

Known distribution: Krakow ( Poland) ( Schmidt 1858), North France, Bohemia ( Czech Republic), former Galicia ( Graff 1909; Graff 1913); Saint Petersburg ( Russia): ditch in Peterhofs park ( Nasonov 1926); vicinity of Berlin ( Germany) ( Weise 1942); near Skútustaðir ( Iceland), pond called Mývatn ( Steinböck 1948).

Material examined: None.

Diagnosis: Animals about 3–4 mm long, coloured grey, although often green when zoochlorellae are present. Eyes greenish-black, situated at the lateral side of the head. Reproductive structures situated caudally from the gonopore.

Remark: Schmidt (1858) originally described the internal organization of P. galiziana as being identical to that of P. unipunctata , with the reproductive structures situated caudally from the gonopore. Therefore it seems reasonable to assume P. galiziana has a male copulatory organ of the duplex-type IIIA and a female system of the UNIPUNCTATA - type. However, Schmidt (1858) never mentioned any of these features when describing P. galiziana .
