Distribution: Great Plains and intermountain basins from Minnesota and N Utah ( USA) to N Chihuahua ( Mexico).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Reviewed by Williams (1978 b). Hoffmeister (1986) considered apache a distinct species. Subspecies reviewed by Williams et al. (1993).
