Edosa longicornis Yang, Wang & Li , sp. nov.

( Figs 5 View FIGURE 5 , 18 View FIGURES 18 d, 49, 78)

Type material. Holotype ♂, CHINA: Mt. Wuyan (27°21΄N, 119°55΄E), Taishun, Zhejiang Province, 680 m, 2.viii.2005, leg. Yunli Xiao, genitalia slide No. YLL10172.

Paratypes: CHINA: Zhejiang Province: 4 ♂, same data as for holotype; 1 ♂, same data except 400 m, 1.viii.2005. Hainan Province: 1 ♂, Mt. Jianfeng (18°50΄N, 108°43΄E), 940 m, 7.vi.2007, leg. Zhiwei Zhang & Weichun Li.

Diagnosis. This new species can be easily recognized by the head bearing creamy white scales, while the head of other Chinese species bears yellowish white to orange scales. In the male genitalia, the valva has an elongate, horned, gently curved basal process, and the aedeagus has a deep cleft ventrally and bears minute denticulations along lateral margins of the cleft that distinguish this species from its congeners.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 44 − 51 ). Wingspan 16.5−22.0 mm. Head creamy white. Antenna 0.7× length of forewing; scape creamy, with a few black pecten bristles; flagellum variegated, creamy white on ventral surface, dark purplish brown on dorsal surface except creamy white on first few segments. Labial palpus dusty yellow with scattered brownish yellow scales on inner surface, dark brown except yellowish brown at apex of third segment on outer surface. Thorax and tegula coppery brown. Forewing index 0.28, ash brown, scales dark tipped; retinaculum present; cilia grayish brown with black tips, with three well-defined cilia lines. Hindwing yellowish brown tinged with gray, with a bronzy sheen, with a single short, slender evenly curved frenular bristle; cilia grayish brown. Fore leg yellowish brown with scattered darker scales on dorsal surface, blackish brown but yellowish in distal 1/3 of coxa on ventral surface; mid leg yellowish brown except mixed with blackish in tarsus on dorsal surface, blackish brown on ventral surface; hind leg yellowish brown.

Pregenital abdomen. In male, first tergum with elliptical medial sclerotization; coremata present in eighth segment; eighth sternite 0.12× as long as wide, posterior margin gently concave, without caudal process; eighth tergite rectangular, without caudal process.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 78 View FIGURES 76 − 79 ). Vinculum somewhat M-shaped on anterior margin, gently concave on posterior margin; medial process absent from ventrocaudal margin. Tegumen 0.7× depth of vinculum, slightly concave on anterior margin, slightly convex on posterior margin. Uncus with broad shouldered base, forming a large, bellshaped membraneous section between uncus and tegumen; uncus lobe 2.0× depth of medial vinculum, twisted at basal 1/3, gently bent ventrad, basal half smooth, distal half setose on inner margin, apex melanized, hooked inward; slender band-like plate from base of uncus lobe laterally, linked with apodeme by narrow membrane; sclerite absent between uncus lobes. Valva narrowed at base, sharply broadened at 1/5, then narrowed to rounded apex; costal margin gently concave, with an elongate, horned and gently curved basal process, about 0.3× length of valva; basal flange absent; ventral margin with densely short setae, gently convex in basal half, forming shallow ventral lobe; basal margin with small, triangular ‘secondary apodeme’ close to apodeme; inner surface unmodified. Juxta fused with vinculum angularly, 0.4× length of aedeagus, flat, goblet-shaped. Aedeagus stout, 0.75× length valva, double-walled; broad at base, narrowed to pointed apex, complete dorsally, with deep cleft ventrally, bearing minute denticulations along lateral margins of cleft. Bulbus ejaculatorius 2.5× length of aedeagus, basal 1/3 slightly expanded, where ductus ejaculatorius is coiled, subdistal and distal sections expanded, narrower than basal 1/3.

Female unknown.

Distribution. China (Zhejiang, Hainan).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin longicornis , meaning long-horned, referring to the elongate, horned process on the costal margin of the valva.

Remarks. Edosa longicornis sp. nov. is close to members of the duoprojecta -group, but its uncus lobes are hooked apically, its valva has a horned basal process at costal 1/5 and lacks a medial process. These characters differentiate the new species from members of the duoprojecta -group. Thus we do not include it in the duoprojecta -group.
