The fact that Garsault 1764 has used the name Salamandra for presumably a French animal and Laurenti 1768 had used the synonymous name for presumably Austrian (his own material) and German animals (presumably Rösel's and Wurfbain's material, we did not check this in detail), has no influence because we see no constraints to assume that under Laurenti's 1768 classification the French populations would have belonged to a different taxon and classified in a different genus. Laurenti 1768 subsequently used Garsault's 1764 name.
