Distribution. Japan (Honshu) ( Ashmead 1904: 81; Dettmer 1934: 126, 132; Shinji 1944: 61 (photo 101), 62 (photo 103); Sakagami 1952: 72–73; Monzen 1954: 30, 33; Yukawa & Masuda 1996: 141, 144), Korea ( Yukawa & Masuda 1996: 145; Im & Ji 2015: 192, 340; Pujade-Villar et al. 2020a: 1214), and Taiwan ( Melika et al. 2010: 24).

Remarks. Both asexual and sexual generations were described by Ashmead (1904), but the alternating lifecycle was closed by Ide & Abe (2021).

Biology. The catkin galls of the sexual generation and the detachable leaf galls of the asexual generation both develop on Q. acutissima and Q. variabilis (sect. Cerris ) ( Table 1; Monzen 1954; Melika et al. 2010). Pénzes et al. (2018) provide detailed biological information for this species under the synonym C. vonkuenburgi .
