Laena hainanica sp. n.

( Figs 5 View FIGURES 1–7 , 19 View FIGURES 11–20 )

Type material. Holotype: ♁, China, Hainan Isl., Bawangling Forest Park, 12.3 km SE Baotie, 1050 m, 8.V.2011, leg. M. Fikáček, NMPC . Paratypes. Same data as for holotype, 2 ex. SMNS .— China, Hainan Isl., Limushan, above Forest Centre , 650–900 m, 6.V.2011, leg. M. Fikáček, 2 ex. NMPC .

Description. Body length 3.8–4.2 mm, dorsal surface dark brown without metallic reflection. Eyes weakly prominent. Pronotum cordiform, widest across anterior third, posterior margin distinctly narrower than the anterior one; with large, partly confluent punctures, distance 0.5–2 puncture diameters, most punctures with long erect setae; surface feebly convex and shining, disc without impressions; lateral margins strongly beaded; posterior corners rounded; prothoracic hypomera with similar but sparser punctures than on pronotum, and with shorter setation. Elytra ovate with rows of punctures without striae, punctures of rows of similar size as punctures on pronotum, punctures without setae; intervals with a few scattered fine punctures with long erect setae, interval 9 with 3 indistinct setiferous pores, internal intervals feebly convex, external intervals distinctly convex; surface shining. Apex of elytra not prolonged. All femora without teeth. Tibiae of both sexes simple, without peculiarities. Apicale of aedeagus broad triangular with rounded apex, see Fig. 19 View FIGURES 11–20 .

Diagnosis. Laena hainanica sp. n. is the second known endemic species from the Hainan Island besides Laena dentatocrassa Zhao & Ren, 2012 (Jianfengling NR). On the contrary, this species is larger (5–6 mm), pronotum and elytra are more elongate, pronotum is widest near anterior angles, lateral margins of the pronotum are only feebly beaded, all femora each with a distinct and massive tooth, and the apicle of the aedeagus is broad spade-like with truncate apex.

Etymology. Named after the Hainan Island, where the species was collected.
