Type species. Micronephthys minuta ( Théel, 1879) , by monotypy. Diagnosis. The genus Micronephthys is distinguished from the other genera by their small-sized body with poorly developed parapodial lamellae. Acicular lobes conical; neuropodial superior lobes absent. Branchiae usually absent or if present of restricted number and poorly developed, straight. Lyriform chaetae may be present. Aciculae of median and posterior parapodia with curved tips. Antennae present. Pharynx subterminal papillae present; middorsal papilla absent; proximal region smooth. Jaws conical, hook-like. Nuchal organs rounded.
