Lectotype (Alavi in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 107: 359. 1983): Herb. Linn. No. 954.44 ( LINN) .

Current name: Hieracium sp. ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Greuter (in Willdenowia 33: 235. 2003) notes that Schultz Bipontinus annotated the type material as identifiable as H. virosum Pall , and that if, as he suspects, closer scrutiny confirmed this, H. sprengerianum , unless it is formally rejected, threatens to displace H. virosum , a well-known name of a widespread Asian and SE European species.
