Description. Head black; pronotum black, with explanate margin dark brown; scutellum with color similar to pronotum; elytra black, with a wide oblique brown to yellowish brown macula in basal half from humeral angle but not reaching suture, with posterior sutural area and posterolateral angle yellowish brown; abdomen almost entirely black, tergites III–V strongly iridescent; antennae pale brown, with antennomere I paler, labrum and mandibles dark reddish brown, maxillary and labial palpi pale brown; legs yellowish brown, with apical portion of mid and hind femora dark brown ventrally.

BL = 10.0 mm, BW = 2.0 mm, HL/PL/EL = 1.00: 1.10: 1.28, HW/PW/EW = 1.00: 1.01: 1.20

Head ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A) round, wider than long, in dorsal view HW/HL = 1.17, HEL/HTL = 11.91; frons with moderately deep, Y-shaped impression; three to four setiferous punctures along medial margin of eye between anterior and posterior frontal setiferous punctures; posterior frontal setiferous puncture situated anterior to level of posterior margin of eye, separated from posteriomedial margin of eye by a distance shorter than the diameter of the puncture; temporal setiferous puncture touching posterior margin of eye; dorsal surface polished, shallowly and sparsely punctate.

Pronotum ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 B) wider than long, PW/PL = 1.09, slightly narrowed anteriorly, lateral and posterior margins broadly rounded; posterolateral and posterior margins moderately explanate; one setiferous puncture in each dorsal row, situated close to anterior margin; large lateral setiferous puncture with socket touching marginal groove; surface strongly polished, without microsculpture, only sparsely and extremely shallowly punctate near anterior angle.

Elytra ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C) wider than long, EW/EL = 1.10, ESL/EL = 0.59, slightly broadened posteriorly; surface unevenly covered with moderately dense and coarse punctures, leaving maculate area slightly less punctate; surface between punctures without microsculpture. Hind wings fully developed.

Abdominal tergites III–V with middle portion almost impunctate, with transverse depressions at base, punctures before depressions distinctly coarse and dense; VI with basal area only vaguely depressed, with punctures in middle portion slightly sparser than adjacent areas; VII–VIII finely punctate, without transverse depression; VII with whitish apical seam of palisade fringe.

Male with first four segments of foretarsus moderately dilated, sub-bilobed; segment II slightly narrower than apex of tibia; tergite VIII ( Fig. 2-1 View FIGURE 2 A) with basal ridge disrupted in middle; sternite VIII ( Fig. 2-1 View FIGURE 2 B) with two long setae on each side, apical margin with a very shallow and moderately wide middle emargination, with a small area around the emargination impuncate; sternite IX ( Fig. 2-1 View FIGURE 2 C) with basal portion very short and wide, apical margin with a deep emargination, with one very long seta on each side; tergite X ( Fig. 2-1 View FIGURE 2 H) with basal side broadly concave, apical margin subacute; aedeagus in lateral view ( Fig. 2-1 View FIGURE 2 D) with apex of paramere protruding beyond that of median lobe, median lobe slightly curved toward paramere at apex; aedeagus in parameral view ( Fig. 2-1 View FIGURE 2 E) with paramere moderately narrowed in middle, widened in apical half, forming two separate lobes with a median suture ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 D, 2-1F); median lobe with middle portion nearly parallel-sided, then slightly dilated laterally below apex, at widest point with one tiny tooth-shaped process on each side, apex subacute, with arcuate process along apical margin ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 E, 2-1G); apical margin of paramere with four to five apical setae on each lobe, underside covered with numerous sensory peg setae, two groups along apex and lateral sides, others irregularly scattered in middle area ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 D, 2-1F).

Female with first four segments of foretarsus not appreciably different from those of male; tergite VIII ( Fig. 2- 1 View FIGURE 2 I) with basal ridge complete, arched backward into a sharp angle in middle, with a small semicircular middle emargination on apical margin; tergite X ( Fig. 2-1 View FIGURE 2 J) with basal side deeply and broadly concave, with a nearly diamond-shaped strongly pigmented and raised area in middle, apical margin trisinuate forming a rounded short middle lobe.

Distribution. Bolitogyrus hainanensis sp. nov. is confined in a few mountains in Hainan Province: Yingge, Wuzhi, Limu and Jianfeng, at altitudes between 450 m and 666 m. The specimen from Wuzhishan was collected from rotten wood. The examined specimens were collected from November to December.

Diagnosis. This new species is the only Chinese species with the paramere divided into two lobes. It is slightly similar to the south Indian species B. lasti Rougemont , in the apically bilobed paramere, but it can be distinguished from the latter easily by having the paramere wider and protruding beyond the apex of the median lobe; in B. lasti Rougemont the paramere is narrower and obviously not reaching the apex of the median lobe.

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the type locality.
