Type-locality: Aphyosemion primigenium – “ Stream , Douano subsystem (Nyanga), in the rainforest of the Mayumbe mountains at Banyanga, western Gabon, elevation 250 meters”. Holotype: NMW 90746 (1 of 19). Paratypes: MNHN 1978-0150 (4), 1981-0869 (16); NMW 90746 (18 of 19), 90747-49 (7, 14, 15) .

Distribution and remarks: a Lower Guinea endemic, found in rainforest brooks in the triangle Mouila-Lebamba- Tchibanga and on the foothills of the Monts du Chaillu, east of Lebamba up to 580 meters, in the Ngounie and Nyanga Rivers in south-western Gabon.
