Distribution and remarks: occurs in the basins of the Gambia, Senegal, Niger, Volta and Chad rivers. A record for Gabon: AMNH 231199 is correctly identified as Mormyrops anguilloides ; also, locality is most likely incorrect and the specimen was not collected in Gabon (Sullivan and Vigliotta, pers. com.). Might be introduced for aquaculture.
