Eremopeza gibbera lata ( Uvarov, 1934) View in CoL
( Fig. 151 View FIGURES 147 – 155 )
Tmethis gibber latus sbsp. n.: Uvarov 1934: 105.
Eremopeza gibbera lata ( Uvarov, 1934) View in CoL : Uvarov 1943: 42, 43; Bey-Bienko & Mistshenko 1951: 296; Karabağ 1958: 109; Weidner 1969: 153, 154; Demirsoy 1977: 34; Presa & Garcia 1983: 10; Otte 1994: 145.
Type locality. Iraq: Erbil, Zirga Zarow Hills. Holotype. male ( NHMUK).
Material examined. IRAQ: Arbil district, Zigra Zarow hills, 31.5.1932, 1♂ (Holotype), 1♂, 2♀ (Paratypes) (leg. Uvarov) ; Kirkuk, 4.6.1923, 1♀ (Paratype) (leg. R.W.G. Hinstone) ; TURKEY: Urfa and environs, 7.1931, 2♂, 2♀ (Paratypes), 1♂, 1♀ (Topotypes) (leg. Eshref Bey) ; Urfa, 1930, 1♂ (det. T. Karabağ) ; Urfa, 1.7.1930, 1♀ (leg. Sureya) ( NHMUK) ; IRAN: Kirmanshah , Nardun, O. baba, 1920, 1♀ (leg. Ofshar) (det. as E. gibber angustus and Tmethis carinatus ) ( ZIN).
Interstage forms: TURKEY: Urfa and environs, 7.1931, 2 males, 1 female (Eshref Bey) ; Urfa, 1.7.1930, 1 male, 1 female (leg. Sureya) ( NHMUK) ; Urfa, 1931, 1♀ (leg. Sureya) ( MfN). These specimens have more blue basal part of hind wings, so nearer to E. gibbera lata .
Remarks. Both subspecies overlap in Urfa province of Turkey, thus both have been found in this region. The subspecific character, basal part of hind wing blue in this subspecies, can be seen in different degrees in Urfa province. Some specimens have hind wings with fully blackened basal part, some with blue basal part and others with a smaller blue part. According to Uvarov (1934: 105) “In the Urfa specimens the black fascia is generally broader than in the Kurdistan ones and they serve to connect this subspecies with the typical one. The occurrence of both forms at Urfa indicates that an overlapping of the two subspecies occurs in that area”. This unusual case is the only example in this species-rich genus. The subspecific character is clear and important compared to other taxa in the genus. On the other hand, according to Sevgili & Çıplak (2000) “The old literature, reporting that E. gibbera lata present in Şanlıurfa, is probably based on misidentification”. But parts of the paratypic series of this subspecies were collected at Urfa (Şanlıurfa) Province (see material examined above). Thus, it should be considered a valid taxon until a further comprehensive study, especially in the field, will be carried out.
