An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Squamata : Varanidae ; adult ticks alone have been collected from Squamata : Scincidae , Elapidae and Pythonidae , Artiodactyla : Bovidae , and Carnivora : Canidae . There are no records of Amblyomma exornatum causing human parasitism.

Note: Theiler (1945a) states that the nymph of Amblyomma exornatum described by her is smaller than the nymph described by Howard (1908). There are erroneous redescriptions of Amblyomma exornatum (under Aponomma ), as in Neumann (1899) , who considered a number of valid species to be synonyms of Amblyomma exornatum , and such redescriptions are not included in the above lists.
