Note: Theiler and Robinson (1953) allegedly redescribed the male and described the female, nymph and larva of Rhipicephalus follis , but all four of these descriptions actually apply to another species, Rhipicephalus lounsburyi , as explained in Walker (1990). See also Rhipicephalus capensis and Rhipicephalus gertrudae for a discussion of the difficulties involved in morphologically separating these taxa from related species, including Rhipicephalus follis .
