Dodomeira laliaensis Bellò View in CoL & Baviera sp. n.

( Figures 10, 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d, 10e, 10f View FIGURES 10 – 10 , 41b View FIGURES 41 , 69 View FIGURES 60 – 98 , 108 View FIGURES 99 – 137 )

Type locality. Sicily, Palermo, Madonie, Alia (Fig. 151).

Diagnosis. A medium-size species (3.50–4.100 mm) belonging to the adrianae group with short sub-parallel elytra (length/width ratio: 1.57–1.60) and body shape sub-cylindrical. Within the species group, it is recognisable by mesorostrum with clavate setae, pronotum transverse (length: 0.75–0.85 mm, width: 0.90–1.00 mm and ratio:0.83–0.90), elytral declivity with raised setae (35°–45°). Elytra slightly convex dorsally (length: 2.20–2.70 mm, width: 1.40–1.70 mm and ratio 1.57/1.60), clothed by imbricate brown silvery scales and golden setae clavate.

Type series. Holotype female with the following labels: [transparent label] genitalia in DHMF // [white, printed] ♀ // [white, printed] “I, Sicilia, PA [Palermo], Alia, m.630, vaglio Olea + Quercus , 27. XI. [20] ’09” // [white, printed] “ N 37°47.474’ E 013°43.434’, legg. Bellò & Chemello” // [green, printed] “Collezione Cesare Bellò” // [red, printed] “ Dodomeira laliaensis sp. n., Holotype, det. Bellò 2016 ” ( CBE).

Paratypes. 1 female: “Sicilia, PA[Palermo], Alia, m.720, vaglio olivo, 19. III. [20] ’08, legg. Baviera & Rando, Bellò & Chemello” (CBA); 1 female: “Sicilia, Palermo, Alia, v.[aglio], Olea & Quercus , 12. III. 2009, leg. Baviera C.” (CBA); 1 female: “Sicilia, Palermo, Alia, m.700, vaglio Olea + Quercus , 10/13. III. [20] ’09, legg. Baviera & Bellò” (CBE); 1 female: “I, Sicilia, PA[Palermo], Alia, m.630, vaglio Olea + Quercus , N 37°47.474’ E 013°43.434’, 27. XI. [20] ’09, legg. Bellò & Chemello” (CBE). Types are five (all females).

Other material. One female-labeled Dodomeira cf laliaensis det. Bellò 2016: “Sicilia, Palermo, Ragusa” (MCZR). The specimen differs from paratypes for more robust antenna.

Holotype. Female. Length: 3.80 mm. Body slender, elytra subparallel to the sides. Dorsal vestiture with imbricate brown-silvery scales and golden setae clavate, raised (angle with elytral surface 30°–45°). Rostrum transverse and subconical to the side. Pterygia obvious, epistome absent, mesorostrum quite concave. Interocular space with scarcely visible fovea. Vertex slightly convex and twice as wide of mesorostrum between antennae (ratio: 2.00) with setae widened and semi-erect. Lateral and spherical eyes very bulging. Antenna quite robust and quite short with long, raised, golden, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.75 (scape length: 0.75 mm, funicle length: 1.00 mm). Scape clubbed slightly more robust than funicle, curved at the middle and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 11.6.5.4.4.4.4.15; segments 1–4 with clavate setae; segments 3–7 pearl-shaped. Club at least twice wider than funicle, fusiform, compact but with suture between first and second segment visible.

Pronotum transverse (length: 0.90 mm, width: 1.00 mm, ratio 0.90) with maximum width at the basal third and less wide at base of its anterior margin, sides sinuate, disc with punctures usually hidden by scales.

Elytra slender (length: 2.40 mm, width: 1.50 mm, ratio 1.60), subcylindrical, disc quite convex, humeri short and rounded. Elytral striae inconspicuous, catenulate, interstriae feebly convex. Legs short and robust clothed by silvery-brown scales and rather short, elongate-clavate silvery-golden setae. Femora little clubbed. Protibia with two-three acute spines on inner edge, with evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia quite sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.

Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, quite robust and quite short.

Female genitalia. See Figures: spermatheca ( Fig. 69 View FIGURES 60 – 98 ), sternite VIII ( Fig. 108 View FIGURES 99 – 137 ). Genitalia were examined in four specimens.

Paratype variability. No were observed significant differences in paratypes specimens (all females), except in size.

Distribution. See Fig. 139. Known only near type locality Alia.

Etymology. Named from “Lalia” the Ancient name of Alia.

Ecology and Phenology. Collected by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter on clay soil, of an olive grove in March and November, at 700–750 meters.

Collections in the other months gave negative results.

Main soil type. Vertic-Cambisol (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).

Reproduction. Probably parthenogenetic. Species known only from five females.
