( Figures 33, 33a, 33b, 33c, 33d, 33e, 33f View FIGURES 33 – 33 , 44b View FIGURES 44 , 92 View FIGURES 60 – 98 , 131 View FIGURES 99 – 137 )
Type locality. Sicily, Palermo, Madonie, Gratteri (Fig. 172).
Diagnosis. A small-sized Dodomeira (3.20–3.70 mm) belonging to the pfisteri group with slender body (length/width ratio: 1.68–1.72) and cylindrical elytra shape. Within the species group, it is recognisable by elytra elongate, elytral declivity with clavate-spatulate raised setae (30°–45°), rostrum with convergent sides towards the apex, and protibia with three acute spines on inner edge. Sizes: pronotum (length: 0.70–0.83 mm, width: 0.80–0.90 mm, ratio 0.88–0.92), elytra (length: 2.05–2.35 mm, width: 1.22–1.37 mm, ratio 1.68–1.72).
Type series. Holotype female with the following labels: [transparent label] genitalia in DHMF // [white, printed] ♀ // [white, printed] “I, Sicilia, PA[Palermo], Madonie, Gratteri, 640m, vaglio gariga, 37°58.233’ N 013°58.586’E 30.XI.2015, legg. Bellò & Baviera ” // [green, printed] “Collezione Cesare Bellò” // [red, printed] “ Dodomeira magrinii sp. n., Holotype, det. Bellò 2016 ” ( CBE).
Paratypes. 12 females: “I, Sicilia, PA, Madonie, Gratteri , 640m, vaglio gariga, 37°58.233’N 013°58.586’E 30.XI.2015, legg. Bellò & Baviera’’ ( CBE, CBA, ECO, GOS). Types are 13 (all females). GoogleMaps
Holotype. Female. Total length: 3.70 mm. Slender body with elytra elongate-cylindrical. Dorsal vestiture with very imbricate, golden-brown scales with metallic sheen.
Rostrum covered by golden-brown scales, very transverse (length/width ratio 0.65), conical to the sides. Pterygia barely protruding from the rostrum. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum slightly concave, anteriorly with twelve thin, curved, semi-erect setae. Vertex wide and convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.90) with several, elongate, clavate, raised setae. Interocular space with visible fovea.
Lateral, quite large, slightly convex eyes barely protruding from outline of head. Antenna quite robust and short with recumbent, golden-silvery, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.83 (scape length: 0.75 mm, funicle length: 0.90 mm). Scape clubbed, short, more robust than funicle, curved at the basal third and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 9.5.4.3.3.3.3.15; first six segments with widened setae silvery; segments 5–7 pearl-shaped. Club at least twice wider than funicle, short, fusiform with suture between first and second segment visible.
Pronotum clothed with golden-brown scales, quite sub-square (length: 0.83 mm, width: 0.90 mm, ratio: 0.92), slightly sub-conical, slightly sinuate, with maximum width in the middle, less wide at base of its anterior margin, with short, widened-clavate, golden recumbent setae. Punctation usually covered by scales. Scutellum not visible.
Elytra (length: 2.35 mm, width: 1.37 mm, ratio: 1.72) vaulted dorsally, cylindrical, covered by golden-brown scales, with flat suture, wider at the middle. Elytral declivity with clavate-spatulate raised setae (30°–45°). Punctation of striae, shallow, rather catenulate and impressed. Interstriae flat, with clavate, quite elongate, golden, raised setae. Humeri short and rounded.
Legs short and robust clothed by golden-brown scales and rather short, widened golden setae. Femora little clubbed. Protibia with three acute spines on inner edge, with mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia quite sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.
Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and short.
Female genitalia. See Figures: spermatheca ( Fig. 92 View FIGURES 60 – 98 ), sternite VIII ( Fig. 131 View FIGURES 99 – 137 ). Genitalia were examined in four specimens.
Paratype variability. All paratypes are females and differs only in size.
Distribution. See Fig. 141. Italian endemic. Known from Madonie Mountains near type locality Gratteri.
Etymology. This species named after our friend and colleague Magrini (Paolo) coleoptera epigean-endogeanhypogean ( Giachino & Vailati, 2010) specialist, in appreciation of his cooperation in our study on Peritelini .
Ecology and Phenology. Collected D. magrinii by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter of various bushes on calcareous soil, in a slope garrigue in winter, at 600–700 meters.
Main soil type. Vertic-Cambisol ( Rendzina ) (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).
Reproduction. Probably parthenogenetic. Species known from 13 females.
Chorological relationships. Sympatric with Dolichomeira sp.
