Type Locality: Brazil, Minas Gerais, "Rio das Velhas," Lagoa Santa.

Vernacular Names: White-eared Opossum.

Synonyms: Didelphis antigua Ameghino 1889 ; Didelphis bonariensis (Marelli 1930) ; Didelphis brasiliensis (Liais 1872) ; Didelphis dennleri (Marelli 1930) ; Didelphis lechei (Ihering 1892) ; Didelphis leucotis (Wagner 1847) ; Didelphis paraguayensis (J. A. Allen 1902) ; Didelphis poecilonota ( Schinz 1844) ; Didelphis poecilotis Wagner 1842 .

Distribution: Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the northern half of Argentina.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Formerly known as D. azarae ; see Hershkovitz (1969). Didelphis paraguayensis J. A. Allen, 1902 , ex Oken, 1816 (= Didelphis albiventris Lund ) is the type species of Leucodidelphis Ihering, 1914 .
