Spongelia dubia var. foraminosa Hyatt, 1877: 535 (no illustration).
The description by Hyatt from Havana, Cuba, approximate coordinates 23.1632°N 82.3786°W ( syntypes MCZ PORc-14/PORa-6491-a and PORa-7048) is unrecognizable. A specimen mentioned by Hyatt from Fort Macon, North Carolina, approximate coordinates 34.64°N 76.73°W, is not mentioned as present in MCZ. In accordance with the above I propose to assign them for the time being to the combination Dysidea excavata ( Hyatt, 1877) as a taxon inquirendum.
