Material examined. 115 males, 93 females, Coll. Zhang Yalin, throughout China (NWAFU).
Distribution. China (Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Yunnan), Northern America, S. & C. America, Europe, Mediterranean, Africa, India, Russia, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia.
Remarks. Balclutha fuscomaculatus (Dai, Li & Chen, 2004) is here treated as a junior synonym of B. saltuella , according to the same shape of the styli, connective and aedeagus, although the head is slightly narrower than the pronotum in the figures.
