Even though the range of this species extends from southern Florida ( USA) to central Brazil, it has been collected most frequently on some Caribbean islands, where it seems to be one of the commoner species of the genus ( Gauld, 1988). It is easily recognized by the rather characteristic colour pattern: black interocellar area and tip of the metasoma.

Several specimens I have studied in Cuban collections have not black interocellar area and tip of the metasoma, but rather dark­brown; and the proximal sclerite can also be more rounded. However, in the same population can be found specimens of both morphs, so I think they are conspecific.
